The Ten Commandments.  The Ten Commandments is a 1956 American epic religious drama film produced, directed, and narrated by Cecil B. DeMille. Enjoying a life of ease in the court of Egypt’s pharaoh, Moses (Charlton Heston) discovers his Hebrew heritage and, later, God’s expectations of him. He dedicates himself to liberating his people from captivity and — with the aid of plagues and divine intervention — manages to lead them out of Egypt and across the Red Sea. A greater challenge comes in the form of the golden calf idol, however, and it takes an unforgettable visitation by God on Mount Sinai for Moses’ mission to prevail.

A Bridge Too Far    The 1977 film, A Bridge Too Far, is based on the 1974 book by Cornelius Ryan of the same name. Ryan’s work describes major battles of World War II from the experiences of common people as well as from official accounts. The book, A Bridge Too Far, is historically accurate. Cornelius Ryan interviewed hundreds of Dutch civilians, British and American and German commanders, and common soldiers fleshing out photos, maps, written accounts, and official reports of the battle. It has enjoyed wide critical acclaim from historians and general readers.

Midway. In this dramatization of the Battle of Midway during World War II, U.S. Navy Adm. Chester Nimitz (Henry Fonda) leads an outnumbered unit in the Pacific to break Japanese encryption codes. They soon discover that Adm. Yamamoto (Toshirô Mifune) plans an ambush of the U.S. base on the island of Midway. Capt. Matt Garth (Charlton Heston) helps devise the Navy’s strategy, while his pilot son, Tom (Edward Albert), falls in love with a Japanese-American woman who is headed for an internment camp.
